First Impressions of Spain...

Siguenza, Spain (found this one on the internet)

March 26, 2011
Well, I’m in Spain. J Our first night we stayed in a missionary’s home in Siguenza, a ancient mid-evil town about 5000 people big about an hour away from Madrid. From our apartment window we have the most amazing view of the red ceramic-toped houses cascading unevenly up the hill in front of us. About midway up at the left side of my picturesque window view is a stone cathedral and at the top of the hill in the center is an old restored castle that has been turned into a hotel. It’s quite something to look at, I feel as though I should be painting it.

Today, after breakfast of pancakes and a little Spanish coffee, we walked through the town where narrow cobble-stone streets lined with cars led us up and down the hills of houses and shops of old wood doors embedded deep into the stone walls and black iron balcony’s that await the flowers that will dress them in bright color in the Spring.  I took many pictures, but unfortunately on the way home as I made room on my camera for the many pictures to come, I accidently deleted everything.  That may have been the only day we toured the town, as we are only here a short-while before we change cities, and so the beauty of Siguenza might have to remain a distant memory.

Tomorrow is Sunday and we will go to church here. It is located along one of the streets we passed by today, the replacement to what used to be a clothing shop, just two rooms with tall open-shutter windows that face the street. Its quite cute, but very small that can fit no more then 20 people at a time, which is about how many fill it on a typical Sunday. That is the extent of the church congregation here in this town, a little different then what we are used to.

I am not really sure as to what the rest of our journey looks like here in Spain yet, but I am pleased to say it is off to a great start. I am just waiting on my coffee to finish perking on the stove and will relax a little this afternoon.

Love Melissa
